A special celebration commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Reading Pagoda was held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. at Manor at Market Square Independent and Assisted Living. All local centenarians were invited to be a part of this special breakfast event, featuring entertainment by the Horizon Singers. History and memorabilia of the Pagoda was present at the event. Alma Christman (above), a 100 year old resident at Manor at Market Square was honored at this breakfast. July 31, 2008 Manor at Market Square Independent and Assisted Living, hosted a special “thank you” ceremony and special event on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. The ceremony honored residents who are veterans of the armed forces. State Senator Michael O’Pake presented a flag pin and certificate to each of the veterans. The ceremony was followed by a reception for the veterans and their families. January 21, 2008
Manor at Market Square was host to The Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce at a "Networking at Noon" event held on January 21. Reading Mayor Tom McMahon spoke to the group and answered questions concerning future plans and development in the downtown area. The mayor told the group there has been heightened interest in urban area recently and that many new projects are underway or being considered for the downtown area. These include: the IMAX theater at 2nd and Washington, the new hotel/conference center in the 700 block of Penn Street and the recently announced mammoth residential/retail/office development along the riverfront.

Manor at Market Square will provide a $500 credit for new residents to use the transitional services provided by Ridgewood Family Services. Ridgewood is an organization specializing in making transitional moves as easy as possible without the hassle and stress. Services include: financial consultation, coordinating packing and move, sale of personal items including real estate, and total home clean-up/ maintenance. For more information, please call Gail M.
